Free CRA Charities Information Sessions

May. 1, 2019

free cra charities information sessions

Canada Revenue Agency’s Charities Directorate is offering free in-person charities information sessions.

The sessions are being held in May and June as well as September and October. The sessions are approximately 3 hours long and will cover topics such as receiving gits and issuing receipts, gifting to qualified donees, keeping books and records, and new educational products and digital services.

Free to all registered charities and other qualified donees, CRA promises it will be a great way for board members, treasurers, volunteers or charity employees to learn about the legal obligations that come with registration.

You can register here. Sessions will be held in Ottawa May 28-29, Halifax June 4, Charlottetown June 5, Moncton June 6, and Quebec City June 13. More cities and dates will be added, and you can let CRA know your if city is not listed.

CRA is also asking for organizations to provide free venues for the information sessions. The venue must accommodate 75-150 people, have a screen or wall for presentations to be projected, be wheelchair accessible, in a central location (ideally) and have access to sufficient free parking (ideally) or public transportation. If your organization has space to offer, consider hosting a session. This could be a great way to serve and bless charitable organizations in your community. If you’re able to host, you can contact CRA by email.
