On September 27, 2016 the Minister of National Revenue announced the launch of consultations to clarify the rules regarding the involvement of charities in political activities. As part of this engagement process, CRA has been collecting feedback from charities and the public. These consultations come as the result of the Government’s commitment to modernize the rules governing the charitable sector. The feedback received by CRA will be considered in the development of policy, guidance and/or educational resources for charities.
In response to CRA’s request the CCCC’s has submitted a letter to the Charities Directorate regarding political activities as part of the consultation process. You can access a copy of the CCCC’s submission here.
There is still time to make a submission as CRA has extended the deadline for comments to December 14, 2016. Comments must be emailed to: consultation-policy-politique@cra-arc.gc.ca. It is important to note that all submissions received are not confidential and may be disclosed under the Access to Information Act.
