In this newly created contract position, you’ll get to put your writing, editing, and fact-checking skills to work in an organization focused on helping Christian charities to be exemplary, healthy, and effective.

Do you have a passion for the mission that Christ gave His Church and a desire to use your strong writing, editing, and fact-checking skills to further that mission? Does the idea of being immersed in the academic field of law and religion excite you? Do you have a desire to gain a deeper understanding of how legal and cultural issues can affect the daily operation of Christian ministries? If so, you may be the candidate we are seeking!

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL GET TO DO IN THIS ROLE:

Editing, writing, and fact-checking: Review content created by the Director, Legal Affairs (articles, books, blog posts, video scripts, etc.) to ensure that the grammar is correct, that facts are accurate, and that arguments are complete and persuasive.

Logistical support: Coordinate with publishers, newspaper editors, and law review editors to ensure that written content created by the Director, Legal Affairs is submitted on time and in the proper format(s).

Agent work: Find markets for the Director’s writing that will have the greatest impact on opinion leaders, thought leaders, and academics in the field of law and religion.

Administrative support: Maintain, update, and revise blog posts (fix broken links, update images, etc.), upload videos, create social media posts, and provide general communications and administrative support to the Director, Legal Affairs. Assist in the organization and direction of legal symposia from time to time.

THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT WILL BE…

Passionate about writing and editing

You love the art and science of writing and can effectively edit and fact-check other people’s written work for a variety of formats (newspaper op-eds, academic journals, websites, etc.).  You have a knack for translating technical content into plain language!

Organized, efficient, and detail-oriented

You have superior organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills and show a high degree of initiative in your work. You have strong administrative and logistical skills and perform related tasks (e.g., making travel arrangements) with excellence.

Technologically savvy

You enjoy working with various social media platforms and WordPress, and you are very effective in online research. You are passionate about new technologies and pick up technical things quickly.

People-oriented

You have a demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective and positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. You are professional, responsive, and have a positive work attitude.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree in English, Journalism, Legal Studies or a related field.
  • Previous experience (paid or volunteer) in Christian ministry.
  • Experience in academic writing, editing, and fact-checking.
  • A portfolio of work that you have written, edited, and/or fact-checked, which may include examples of blog posts, articles, and other pieces.

This position may work from CCCC’s office in Elmira, ON or be based remotely.
