In April 2026, the federal government released its Spring Economic Update, Canada Strong for All<\/a> (the \u201cUpdate\u201d). Part of the Update pledged to modernize the charitable sector in consultation with the sector<\/a>, but there were precious few details on what that meant. However, we now have some indication that modernization relates primarily to technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In its most recent newsletter<\/a>, the CRA Charities Directorate explained that the modernization initiative<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2026includes leveraging advances in technology and digitzation, and represents an important step that complements the CRA\u2019s ongoing modernization efforts.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n In terms of the consultation process, the CRA Charities Directorate also explained that it<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2026will be working close with the charitable sector in the coming year to help them transition to online services. This includes continuing to engage with key stakeholders and the\u00a0Technical Issues Working Group<\/a>, which represents a diverse cross section of the charitable sector in Canada.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n CCCC is pleased to hear that at least some of the stakeholder engagement will take place through the Technical Issues Working Group (TIWG).
