{"id":35734,"date":"2022-09-29T17:19:19","date_gmt":"2022-09-29T21:19:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cccc.org\/news_blogs\/?p=35734"},"modified":"2022-09-29T17:19:23","modified_gmt":"2022-09-29T21:19:23","slug":"cra-extends-filing-deadlines-for-charities-impacted-by-hurricane-fiona","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cccc.org\/news_blogs\/legal\/2022\/09\/29\/cra-extends-filing-deadlines-for-charities-impacted-by-hurricane-fiona\/","title":{"rendered":"CRA Extends Filing Deadlines for Charities Impacted by Hurricane Fiona"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/revenue-agency\/news\/newsroom\/tax-tips\/tax-tips-2022\/support-canadians-affected-hurricane-fiona.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">news release<\/a>, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) confirmed that it will extend filing deadlines for charities impacted by Hurricane Fiona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Specifically, CRA has extended to <strong>October 31<\/strong> the due date for<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>returns and balances for all T2\/T3 tax returns<\/li><li>returns and balances for all GST\/HST returns<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>that would normally have been due between September 26 and October 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There will be no penalty or interest for late filing if they are submitted after September 30<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The news release invites charities to call 1-800-267-2384 if their books and records have been destroyed as a result of a disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, for taxpayers who were \u201cprevented from meeting their tax obligations due to the adverse event\u201d CRA will review requests on a priority basis. CRA will accept relief requests by phone through both the individual and business enquiry lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information, check out CRA\u2019s regular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/revenue-agency\/services\/about-canada-revenue-agency-cra\/complaints-disputes\/cancel-waive-penalties-interest\/circumstances-that-may-warrant-relief.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">information page about cancelling or waiving penalties or interest<\/a>. This page provides a lot more detail.
