Both for-profit and not-for-profit institutions are considered eligible entities and it includes private colleges, private schools, and specialized schools such as arts schools, language schools, driving schools, flight schools and culinary schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The change is retroactive to the first qualifying period which started March 15, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Up until the announcement, private schools were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parl.ca\/DocumentViewer\/en\/43-1\/bill\/C-14\/royal-assent\">included in the definition<\/a> of a \u201cpublic institution\u201d by virtue of being a school. The CEWS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/revenue-agency\/services\/subsidy\/emergency-wage-subsidy\/cews-frequently-asked-questions.html#h_2\">FAQ #3 Which employers are eligible for the wage subsidy?<\/a> lists eligible employers, including a registered charity, and a person that is exempt from tax under Part I of the <em>Income Tax Act<\/em>. A &#8220;person&#8221; here includes a corporation (see s <a href=\"https:\/\/laws-lois.justice.gc.ca\/eng\/acts\/i-3.3\/page-272.html#h-317484\">248(1) of the <em>ITA<\/em><\/a>).
