{"id":28633,"date":"2019-11-08T10:28:38","date_gmt":"2019-11-08T15:28:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.cccc.org\/news_blogs\/?p=28633"},"modified":"2019-11-08T10:28:45","modified_gmt":"2019-11-08T15:28:45","slug":"anti-racism-action-program-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cccc.org\/news_blogs\/legal\/2019\/11\/08\/anti-racism-action-program-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"Anti-Racism Action Program Funding"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Authored by Deina Warren, Associate Director, Legal Affairs<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Does your charity address barriers to employment, justice or social participation among religious minorities, Indigenous Peoples or racialized communities? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your\norganization may be eligible for one-time funding through the federal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/canadian-heritage\/services\/funding\/anti-racism-action-program\/application-guidelines.html\">Anti-Racism Action Program<\/a>.\nThe program offers funding for projects that align with one or more of three\nkey themes: employment, justice and social participation. Projects that target\nonline hate and promote digital literacy will be given priority and all initiatives\nare expected to: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Increase the capacity of organizations to focus on systemic barriers to employment, justice and social participation<\/li><li>Increase the delivery of resources, programs, campaigns and services addressing those barriers<\/li><li>Increase participation by religious minorities, Indigenous Peoples and racialized communities in those projects and\/or<\/li><li>Increase the availability and accessibility of data, evidence and community insights regarding disparities experienced by these three groups<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nprogram\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/canadian-heritage\/services\/funding\/anti-racism-action-program\/application-guidelines.html#a1\">objectives<\/a> are\nbroad-ranging and include, among other things, promoting intercultural and\ninterfaith understanding and promoting discussions on multiculturalism,\ndiversity, racism and religious discrimination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition\nto meeting all eligibility requirements, applicants must complete the\napplication form (sent upon request), a balanced budget form, most recent\nfinancial statements (audited, if available), letters of support from project\npartners (if applicable), and additional documents depending on the nature of\nthe project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This program is one part of a $45 million investment into a larger anti-racism strategy outlined in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/content\/dam\/pch\/documents\/campaigns\/anti-racism-engagement\/ARS-Report-EN-2019-2022.pdf\"><em>Building a Foundation for Change: Canada\u2019s Anti-Racism Strategy 2019\u20132022<\/em><\/a><em>.\u00a0 <\/em>As we explained in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cccc.org\/\/bulletin_reader\/2019\/4\">September Bulletin<\/a> Quick Picks column, this plan draws on an earlier report from the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ourcommons.ca\/Content\/Committee\/421\/CHPC\/Reports\/RP9315686\/chpcrp10\/chpcrp10-e.pdf\"><em>Taking Action Against Systemic Racism and Religious Discrimination including Islamophobia<\/em><\/a> which itself was initiated through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ourcommons.ca\/DocumentViewer\/en\/42-1\/house\/sitting-141\/hansard\">Motion M-103<\/a>. The motion called on the government to condemn Islamophobia and develop a whole-of-government approach to reducing or eliminating systemic racism and religious discrimination including Islamophobia. It ultimately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ourcommons.ca\/DocumentViewer\/en\/42-1\/house\/sitting-156\/journals\">resulted in an order<\/a> for the Committee on Canadian Heritage to undertake such a study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The program\nis described as highly competitive.
