He needed more resources from the United States to carry on the fight for freedom, and while President Franklin D. Roosevelt supported Churchill to some extent, it was not enough. Churchill called on Roosevelt to do more:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cPut your confidence in us. Give us your faith and your blessing, and, under Providence, all will be well. We shall not fail or falter; we shall not weaken or tire. Neither the sudden shock of battle, nor the long-drawn trials of vigilance and exertion will wear us down. Give us the tools, and we will finish the job.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Give Us the Tools, and We Will Finish the Job <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The resour<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">ces you give through the Legal Defence Fun<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">d enable the legal work we do to ensure that Canada remains a hospitable environment in which Christian charities can carry on with their work. We are concerned about the prospect of courts interfering in matters and decisions of religious groups, including Christian charities. The hearing was held on November 2, 2017.&nbsp; We expect the decision by June 2018.&nbsp; <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1rem;\" href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/p30X8p-6TQ\">Our oral argument is found here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">\u2018The TWU case\u2019 involves those seeking to disallow graduates of the Christian university to practise law in Canada, given that they are required to agree that while they\u2019re students, they will not to engage in sexual practices that would violate the definition of marriage as between one man and one woman. &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/p30X8p-6X1\">Our oral argument is found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-26727\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cccc.org\/news_blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Supreme-Court-on-TWU-3-300x160.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cccc.org\/news_blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Supreme-Court-on-TWU-3-300x160.png 300w, https:\/\/cccc.org\/news_blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Supreme-Court-on-TWU-3-768x411.png 768w, https:\/\/cccc.org\/news_blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Supreme-Court-on-TWU-3-1024x548.png 1024w, https:\/\/cccc.org\/news_blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Supreme-Court-on-TWU-3.png 1853w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>During the TWU hearing at the Supreme Court of Canada on December 1, the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) lawyer Susan Ursal was questioned by Justice Malcolm Rowe about the CBA\u2019s position that the accreditation of TWU\u2019s law school was a form of \u201cpublic support\u201d that should not be given to TWU.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow about my theoretical Jesuit institute?\u201d Justice Rowe inquired. \u201cYou can\u2019t get in unless you\u2019re a Jesuit. You can\u2019t become a Jesuit unless you\u2019re a Catholic priest. And you can\u2019t become a Catholic priest unless you\u2019re a man. Should their tax-exempt status be struck down because of that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not the case before us,\u201d Ursel replied, deflecting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut is it not the logic of what you\u2019re putting to us?\u201d Justice Rowe pressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is the logic of what I am putting to you,\u201d Ursel agreed. \u201cThere are limits to what the state should be called upon to support \u2026 you are right, we are at that threshold, and we can\u2019t back away from it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>We Need Your Support: The Time to Act Is Now <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Canadian Bar Association is not alone in its view about Christian charities and tax exempt status.&nbsp; This is but one issue that we must address in the coming year.&nbsp; We want to keep Canada open to Christian ministry. Christian charities provide much needed help to Canadian society &#8211; from running soup kitchens, providing shelter to those on the street, prison fellowship, food banks, you name it there are Christian charities helping those who cannot help themselves.&nbsp; We must continue to engage with thought leaders and academics about the place of Christian charities in Canada.
